Man killed, 5 injured after police chase ends in crash

CHICAGO — A 66-year-old man has died after being hit by a car that was being chased by Chicago police.

At about 7:35 p.m. Monday, officers pulled over a 26-year-old man driving a dark blue Pontiac for a traffic violation near 75th Street and Saint Lawrence Avenue.

The driver fled, ran a red light at 75th and King Drive and struck another car.

He kept going and then hit Willie Owens, 66, who was in the street working on a stalled truck.

Police say that truck was then pushed into another car, which had two women inside.

Owens was rushed to Stroger Hospital, but later died from his injuries.

The driver who allegedly started the chase was treated and released from St. Bernard Hospital and taken into police custody.

Four other people were also injured, including an 88-year-old woman who is in serious condition.
