Chicago medical students stage ‘die-in’ in front of City Hall

CHICAGO — Chicago medical students staged a ‘die-in’ calling for the resignation of Mayor Rahm Emanuel in front of City Hall.

The protest happened at exactly 7:44 a.m. Thursday.

Medical students from Chicago chapters of the American Medical Student Association, Student National Medical Association, Students for a National Health Program, White Coats for Black Lives, and the Latino Medical Student Association, along with students from other health professional schools, staged a 16-minute ‘die-in.’

The 16-minutes represents the 16-times Laquan McDonald was shot by CPD officer Jason Van Dyke

Emanuel apologized Wednesday for the response to the case of Officer Van Dyke shooting teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times in October of 2014. The video was only recently released after a lawsuit.

Protesters spent Wednesday marching and demanding his resignation.

A state lawmaker from Chicago has introduced a proposal that would allow for a mayoral recall.
