SYCAMORE, Ill. — A man convicted of the 1957 murder of a 7-year-old girl learned that he will be set free.
Lawyers for 76-year-old Jack McCullough asked the judge to release him, after the Dekalb County Prosecutor revealed evidence that he says proves McCullough couldn’t have killed Maria Ridulph.
Prosecutors say McCullough was 35 miles away when Maria was abducted as she played in the snow in Sycamore, Ill. Maria’s body was found months later.
McCullough was convicted of the killing in 2012. At the time, it was one of the oldest cold cases in the country.
This is a developing story. Check back for details.
